Diabetes is a metabolic disease where blood sugars rise because the pancreas produces too little or no insulin, or lack of proper cellular response to insulin—-a condition called insulin resistance. Sadly, medical complications associated with diabetic patients causes nutrient deficiencies which further acerbates their problems. However, dietary supplements along with conventional diabetic medications and lifestyle changes have been very effective toward reduce symptoms and conditions associated with this disease.
Zinc. What can zinc do to help diabetics? Zinc happens to be a strong inducer of an anti-oxidant compound called metallothionien, which in turn, prevents the onset or progression of diabetes by binding up damaging free radicals. Most importantly, zinc has insulin-like effects by promoting glucose into cells. Diabetes and other inflammatory diseases, copper may accumulate within cells, causing plague formation, reduce blood flow, nerve damage, loss of limbs, and host of other health problems. However, zinc does an excellent job of regulating and managing healthy copper blood levels.
Copper and Other Nutrients. Copper is another mineral, like zinc, that maybe missing from those who suffer from diabetes. Considering diabetics often suffer from skin problems, inflammation, and slow healing, copper can help them manage the symptoms of the disease. And, along with other nutrients (such as vitamins C and D3, zinc, chromium, magnesium, manganese, and vanadium) can help improve blood sugar levels.
Riboflavin (B2). Riboflavin 5-phosphate (the active form of B2) can serve as a powerful anti-oxidant to protect tissue and organs from damage, and reduce inflammation, fatigue, depression, anxiety, migraines, and other symptoms/ complications of this disease.
Thiamine (B1). B1 is an essential (not made in body)vitamin needed to burn glucose for energy and breakdown fats and proteins. Poorly controlled diabetes leads to kidney damage, resulting in a serious loss of B1, proteins, and other nutrients via the urine. To this end, B1 deficiency sets the stage for elevated amounts of blood glucose and cholesterol, chronic fatigue, and harmful effects of inflammation. Thiamine supplementation has been reported to prevent and/or reduce diabetic complications, including cardiovascular and vascular diseases.
